Complete your irl lessons with as much online lessons as you can stomach, focus on getting a nice foundation for singing first. In my case we didn't start to focus on screaming until after a year of weekly lessons. My advice would be to do what I did : find the best vocal teacher in your area, preferably one who's actually proficient at metal vocals, and have them take you through the whole process, starting from the very basics of singing. Since you're new at this you'll try all kinds of weird shit and lay waste to your vocal chords in the process. Learning to scream is a long, frustrating, sometimes painful process. News flash, this is SCREAMING, and "it should never hurt at any point" is total BS.
I took what few advice there was to heart so strongly that I never dared making any noise - just doing that dreaded Marge Simpson voice over and over. Horrible for beginners.Įven worse, I think this dvd actually prevented me from getting anywhere with my voice from age 16 to 21. Perhaps fine for people who already know how to scream and want to refine their technique. She shows you a few basic warmups (which are good, but not any better than any other warmups a decent teacher would show you), talks your ear off about how you shouldn't push, and then it's just a bunch of famous people telling you how great she is.
